Rare rhino death leaves only 13 worldwide

SAN DIEGO, California (AP) -- A rare northern white rhinoceros died Wednesday at the San Diego Zoo, dwindling the critically endangered species' population to as few as 13 worldwide, zoo officials said.

Nadi was one of three northern white rhinos at the zoo's Wild Animal Park. No cause of death was given, but the female rhino had shown signs of old age, the zoo said in a statement.

Nadi, believed to be more than 40 years old, was brought from Africa in 1972 and was part of a group maintained at the Dvur Kralove Zoo in the Czech Republic.

New Loch Ness Monster video

EDINBURGH, Scotland (AP) -- Like tartan, bagpipes, and shortbread Scotland's Loch Ness Monster is as much an emblem as a tourist draw.

And now Nessie's back.

An amateur scientist has captured what Loch Ness Monster watchers say is among the finest footage ever taken of the elusive mythical creature reputed to swim beneath the waters of Scotland's most mysterious lake. (Watch the 'monster' footage Video)

"I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw this jet black thing, about 45-feet (15 meters) long, moving fairly fast in the water," said Gordon Holmes, the 55-year-old a lab technician from Shipley, Yorkshire, who took the video this past Saturday.

He said it moved at about 6 mph (10 kph) and kept a fairly straight course.

"My initial thought is it could be a very big eel, they have serpent-like features and they may explain all the sightings in Loch Ness over the years."

Loch Ness is surrounded by myth and mystery, as it is the largest and deepest inland expanse of water in Britain. About 750 feet (230 meters) to the bottom, it's even deeper than the North Sea.

Nessie watcher and marine biologist Adrian Shine of the Loch Ness 2000 center in Drumnadrochit, on the shores of the lake, viewed the video and hopes to properly analyze it in the coming months.

Artist eats dog to protest alleged animal cruelty

LONDON, England (AP) -- A British performance artist has eaten part of a corgi -- the breed of dog Queen Elizabeth II favors as pets -- to protest the alleged mistreatment of animals by the royal family.

Mark McGowan dined on corgi meatballs Tuesday at a table set up on a London street in hopes of drawing attention to media reports that Prince Philip, the queen's husband, had beaten a fox to death during a hunt. The event was broadcast over a live radio program.

Yoko Ono, featured on the same radio program, also tasted a bit of the dog, McGowan said. Ono's spokesman did not immediately return calls or e-mails seeking comment.

"We love our animals in Britain," McGowan told AP Television News. "Why is it then that we then allow people -- especially people who are supposed to be ambassadors for this country -- to treat animals with such disrespect?"

Buckingham Palace declined to comment, and Britain's top animal-protection charity said there was no evidence to support the claim that Prince Philip abused the fox.

To make the corgi more palatable, it was minced with apple, onion and seasoning, turned into meatballs and served with salad.

There is no way I would eat my dog. I know, some of you may say if I got hungry enough I would. No, I wouldn't. I love animals as pets. Especially dogs.

To some of you it may be hypocritical for me to say I would not eat a dog, yet I eat, rabbit, fish, seafood, beef, pork, turtle, lamb, turkey, chicken, etc;

My dog loves me and I care for her as well. It's unconditional and she is part of the family.

U.S. isolates traveler infected with super-TB

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The United States has placed in isolation a man who may have exposed fellow passengers and crew on two May trans-Atlantic flights to a tuberculosis strain that is extremely hard to treat, officials said on Tuesday.

It was first time the U.S. government has issued such an isolation order since 1963, when it took action against a smallpox patient, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The man, a U.S. citizen from the state of Georgia, is suffering from extensive drug-resistant TB, known as XDR TB, which resists virtually all antibiotics, the CDC said. Tuberculosis is a bacterial infection that usually attacks the lungs.

Full story

This is not good news. The man traveled to several countries, and therefore came into contact with a lot of people. I would not be surprised if several people die over this.

The bad thing about all of this is the fact the man knew he was ill. He was advised not to travel, but he did anyway! Reports say that he did not know he had this severe strain of TB.

Fitzgerald says Plame was covert agent

Special prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald has asserted in new court filings that Valerie Plame was indeed a covert agent at the time of her outing, according to a Newsweek report filed by Michael Isikoff and Mark Hosenball.

"In new court filings, special counsel Patrick Fitzgerald has finally resolved one of the most disputed issues at the core of the long-running CIA leak controversy: Valerie Plame Wilson, he asserts, was a 'covert' CIA officer who repeatedly traveled overseas using a 'cover identity' in order to disguise her relationship with the agency," Newsweek reports.

I hope this lays to rest the rhetoric that has been going around for years now that Valerie Plame was not covert. She indeed was.

Princess Diana documentary photos spark anger

LONDON (Reuters) - A documentary featuring images of the car crash in which Princess Diana died should not be shown because of the distress it will cause her family, the Conservatives said on Monday.

The Channel 4 program "Diana: The Witnesses in the Tunnel" will show pictures of the aftermath of the 1997 accident in a Paris underpass in which Diana, 36, and her lover Dodi al Fayed were killed, along with their chauffeur Henri Paul.

News that the documentary, one of many media projects marking the 10th anniversary of the August 1997 crash, might feature previously taboo photos prompted condemnation.

GIs in Iraq are no longer true believers

BAGHDAD: Staff Sergeant David Safstrom does not regret his previous tours in Iraq, not even a difficult second stint when two comrades were killed while trying to capture insurgents.

"In Mosul, in 2003, it felt like we were making the city a better place," he said. "There was no sectarian violence, Saddam was gone, we were tracking down the bad guys. It felt awesome."

But now on his third deployment in Iraq, he is no longer a believer in the mission. The pivotal moment came, he says, this past February when soldiers killed a man setting a roadside bomb. When they searched the bomber's body, they found identification showing him to be a sergeant in the Iraqi Army.

"I thought, 'What are we doing here? Why are we still here?' " said Safstrom, a member of Delta Company of the 1st Battalion, 325th Airborne Infantry, 82nd Airborne Division. "We're helping guys that are trying to kill us. We help them in the day. They turn around at night and try to kill us."

His views are echoed by most of his fellow soldiers in Delta Company, renowned for its aggressiveness.

Rosie Says The Splitscreen Made Her Leave

Sipping beer from a bottle, a glum Rosie O'Donnell spoke publicly for the first time over the weekend about her angry explosion last week and leaving "The View."

In a rambling video posted on her well-trafficked Web site, the beleaguered comedian complained that:

* She was made to feel like a "foster child" during her stormy, nine-month stint on the show.

* The split-screen image of her hammering at co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck was the final straw for her.

Continued progress on the station

Considering the fact that I have just started in earnest to collect enough songs to have when I start my streaming internet station, I am doing fine.

The next thing I need to do is build a web site so I can have more people go to it. I have had several bands and musicians ask me if I had a site. I figure I can get more of a response if I could show I have a site with info. I need to do that this week.

I will keep you posted.

Streaming station coming along

I have spent most of the weekend contacting some bands and artists that I think may want to have their music played on the internet through a streaming station. I am getting some response. So, hopefully very soon I will have the station up and running!

I will play all types of music. I will try not to discriminate. I will, however, ask that some hip hop bands or artists need to send me radio edit.

I need your help. I need a name for the station. I need it to encompass all types of music. I thought about calling it Hoosier Radio since I live in Southern Indiana.

If you have any ideas what it should be called, let me know!If I find one I like I will mention the name of the winner from time to time during the show.

Help me name my station

The person that comes up with the title that I like the best will be mentioned from time to time on the air.

I live in the Midwest, in Southern Indiana. I had an idea to call the station Hoosier Radio.

Any ideas?

More about bands and musicians

Feel free to send me your music no matter what type of music you play. I will play all of the music together at first, then as the music collection grows, I will have certain days for certain types of music!

One thing I want to ask of you, if it's hip hop, please send me a radio edit version of your music.

Again I can be contacted at MySpace.com. The link is over to the right.

Musicians, bands wanted

I am going to start a streaming audio station on the internet that will feature music that is not being heard on the internet or radio. There is a lot of very fine music that is being written and performed that is not being heard nation-wide or world-wide.

Are you interested in having your music heard? Then at the end of this post, I will provide you with my space link that will allow you to get in contact with me. I will need original music, and some brief info about you or your group. I will need a cd of your mp3s or a cd or cds of your music.

I was going to do this two years ago and charge people to have their music heard. Some people were already doing that, but MySpace blasted that right out of the water. Why should people pay when they can have a lot of their tunes heard for free to thousands of people?

That detered my idea for a while, however, I decided I want to go through with this idea.

In time I will have a web site as well promoting the station.

As soon as I have collected at least 200 songs, I will start the station.

Bigfoot risks extinction, says Canadian MP

Bigfoot, the legendary hairy man-like beast said to roam the wildernesses of North America, is not shy, merely so rare it risks extinction and should be protected as an endangered species.

So says Canadian MP Mike Lake who has called for Bigfoot to be protected under Canada's species at risk act, alongside Whooping Cranes, Blue Whales, and Red Mulberry trees.

"The debate over their (Bigfoot's) existence is moot in the circumstance of their tenuous hold on merely existing," reads a petition presented by Lake to parliament in March and due to be discussed next week.

"Therefore, the petitioners request the House of Commons to establish immediate, comprehensive legislation to affect immediate protection of Bigfoot," says the petition signed by almost 500 of Lake's constituents in Edmonton, Alberta.

Entire article

I want bigfoot to exist. I really do. Ever since I was a small child I have been fasinated with primates. Bigfoot seems to fit that mold, however, as time goes by without producing real evidence of its existence, I am beinning to have real doubts that bigfoot exists.

What is your opinion?
